Moschino Says Ahoy to Fall 2010
The top model Alessandro Ambrosio is appearing this season is Moschino's Fall 2010 ad campaign, which is featuring a stylish pirates of the Caribbean aesthetic. Moschino's advertising style usually is very simple and allows the clothes to speak for themselves, a quality that Moschino's elegance allows for. This year's Fall palette is quite simple, including only hues of white, navy blue, blacks, and gold. Donning a navy blue blazer embellished on the collar, lapels, sleeves and edges with golden rings definitely conjures images of Johnny Depp's swashbuckling, sword-brandishing Jack Sparrow and the high-waisted matching trousers with medium-sized classic belt cinched at natural waist level induces a touch of high fashion. The ascots, in both dove-white and navy sprinkled in white provides for a versatile accessory that can be worn with almost any office outfit. The wide black pirate-style hat meshes well with the black and white-striped shirt dress which is accented by a navy quilted clutch dotted with gold buttons. The jewelry is very reminiscent of the kinds of trinkets you might find in a deep-sea treasure chest and shine brilliantly against the colors of the apparel. Overall the looks prove that chic doesn't always have to inundated with expensive clothing and the trappings of the upper class world but it can be found in the tales of the incorrigible, greedy, and less than refined pirates of the oceans.
D&G Gives A Taste of Italian Ice With 2010 Fall Campaign
The younger brother of the Dolce and Gabbana collection, D&G has chosen to take its newest Fall arrivals to the snowy heights of the mountains in a ski-themed ad campaign. Whereas the ads from Dolce and Gabbana tend to be more artistic, ambiguous, and feature wider landscapes, D&G ads tend to prefer an more up-close and personal point of view and usually play on the aesthetic effect of including large numbers of models in one small space. A collection that prefers to set the trends rather than display them, Dolce and Gabbana has chosen to include flowing pearl-white light apparel and patterned knits with lots of movement. The scene is reminiscent of a Milanese private high school ski trip and I doubt few can say their classmates have been this glamorous...

Trend or End? The Girl-About-Town
Give me them bright lights...long nights...party till the sun is rising...high-rise, overtime...working till the moon is shining...hot guys, fly girls, never thought I'd say I feel on top of the world...The Fall Women's collections this year are most certainly picking up on the trend of the urban female sophisticate. Perhaps the high amounts of exposure given to working girls with television shows like The Hills, The City, The Rachel Zoe Project, and Gossip Girl whose real-life as well as fictional portrayals of the driven, ambitious, achieving, and most importantly stylish girl have inspired designers such as Elie Tahari, Preen, and Chado Ralph Rucci to use her as their muse for this upcoming season...
Brand of the Day – Express
Today I’m featuring one of my favorite brands, the All-American, always-stylish men and women’s apparel store. Known highly for their styles that tend to cater to the tastes of the psychographic group of the man previously known as the metrosexual and the woman who fancies herself an It Girl, they have no problems hitting their target audiences. The only thing more impressive than the brand’s extensive supply of clothing that is both cutting-edge and far from overpriced is the superb and attractive visual merchandising. When I step inside the walls of an Express store, I can’t help but feel the same way Holly Golightly from Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s feels; absolutely nothing could possibly go wrong and absolutely nothing I choose to buy could go wrong in a place like this…

And Just When Your World Couldn’t Get More Real: Armani Exchange’s Fall 2010 3-D Campaign
As if the list of films in 3-D like Step Up 3-D, The Last Airbender, Resident Evil: Resurrection and movies about twisting reality such as Inception wasn’t enough to make you wonder where the line between reality and imagination is being drawn, Armani Exchange is launching a never-before seen ad campaign in—you guessed it—3-D. The 3-D ads are set to appear in the September issues of GQ, Interview, and V Magazine. Apparently after doing research, Armani’s marketing division found out that consumers of Armani Exchange are heavily into high-tech gadgets and trends giving them the green light to create a whole 3-D ad campaign…

Diesel’s Fall 2010 Campaign Turns Fashion Marketing on Its Head
Diesel’s previous ad campaigns have been replete with edginess, darkness, and a taste for the hardcore. But recently Diesel has turned a 180 and taken a significantly less serious approach to its advertising. The “Be Stupid” campaign has been a clever reinvention of advertising not because it is introducing a new method of marketing a product but it is difficult to ignore because its ad power lies in its brutal honesty about the methods of marketing. Looking at these photos is an experience akin to watching a Truth commercial divulging the subliminal attempts of Big Tobacco to cause consumers to start smoking…after all, as Diesel says, “There’s no wrong way to do it”…
Karl Lagerfeld Takes It to The Streets with Chanel’s Fall 2010 Ad Campaign
Where there’s smokin’ hot fashion, there’s definitely a fire escape. Karl Lagerfeld has transported the Chanel brand to a new destination almost antithetical to the refined, sophisticated surroundings that normally come to mind when thinking of Chanel’s ad photo shoots. The fashions, however, had not deviated from the normal Chanel aesthetic which is most definitely a positive point. Chanel is one of the oldest and greatest power players in the fashion world and if there’s one thing that can be attributed to the ideals of the woman who stated, “Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence but of those who have already taken control of their future”…

Armani’s Fall 2010 Ad Campaign Mystifies By Channeling Mystery
Armani’s main line which bears his namesake Giorgio Armani has successfully used the same advertising technique it has for the past few seasons with its new fall collection. The chiaroscuro of Armani ads and the super-strategic lighting inside the ads gives Giorgio Armani a transcendent film noir-esque quality I love. The way Edita Vikelviciute waits seductively at the hotel desk with an air of self-possession tinged with anticipation gives life to the beautifully crafted scarlet embroidered one-shoulder dress she wears. Perhaps she hides a dagger in her garter waiting to devour someone like a black widow at the moment of her meeting?...
DSquared2’s Fall 2010 Campaign Goes Minimalist
It’s quite interesting that in spite of all of our fascinations with the art of putting clothes on and the various methods of keeping them on that we are so much more fascinated with the art of seeing them come off. Perhaps it is a statement to the role of art in our lives; our main purpose as animals is to follow those impulses that we are born with and art, whether it be visual, interior design, creative writing, photography, fashion design, or poetry is the greatest means of humans to try to deny those impulses and cast them away. Unfortunately, art is often the medium where those impulses are most visible, as seen in the gratuitous nudity inside DSquared2s latest ad campaign. But I can’t seem to shake off this persistent sentiment of “Where have I seen this before?”…
